COLUMBIA, S.C. – Miles College outscored Benedict 26-11 in the fourth quarter to pull away from a close game and defeat the Benedict College Lady Tigers 78-59 in a women's basketball game on Thursday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict had as much as an eight-point lead, 17-9, early in the second quarter before Miles rallied with a 9-0 run to take an 18-17 lead and then scored the final six points of the first half for a 32-31 lead at halftime.
Miles pushed the lead to as much as eight points in the third quarter, 46-38, but Benedict rallied to trim the lead to 52-48 heading into the final period. Miles used a 13-1 run early in the fourth quarter to take a 69-51 lead with 4:51 left in the game and cruised to the final victory.
Although both teams are members of the SIAC, this was counted as a non-conference contest. Benedict fell to Miles 65-52 on Dec. 14 in their conference matchup. Miles improves to 15-6 overall, while Benedict dropped their seventh straight game and fell to 7-15 overall.
Kaya Evans led a balanced scoring effort by the Lady Tigers with 11 points.
Taylor Christmas had nine points and seven rebounds.
Aniyah Scales added eight points.
The Lady Tigers return to SIAC action with a road trip to Albany State on Saturday.
