Lady Tigers Close Out Regular Season With Loss To Clark Atlanta

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College women's basketball team was held to a season-low 43 points as Clark Atlanta topped the Lady Tigers 55-43 in a SIAC contest on Monday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
 
The Lady Tigers celebrated Senior Day, honoring six seniors playing in their final home game.
 
Clark Atlanta, the top seed in the SIAC East Division, used a 9-0 run late in the third quarter to pull ahead from a close game and took a 39-33 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, Benedict cut the lead to 44-39 with 4:04 left to play, but the Lady Panthers scored the next six points to open up an 11-point lead and went on to take the victory.
 
Clark Atlanta finishes the regular season at 22-5 overall and 16-3 in the SIAC and will be the top seed in the SIAC East Division in the upcoming SIAC Championship. Benedict falls to 9-17 overall and 7-12 in the SIAC. The Lady Tigers will be the fifth seed in the SIAC East and will have to travel to face the fourth seed from the SIAC West Division in the opening round of the SIAC Championship on March 1. Official pairings will be announced by the league office, but Central State is currently in fourth place in the West.
 
Benedict had as much as an eight-point lead, 15-7, in the second quarter. Clark Atlanta chipped away and eventually tied the game at 24 at the half.
 
At halftime, Benedict honored seniors Ciara Hardy, Kaya Evans, Kayla Horton, Taylor Christmas, Nyree Bell, and Taiyee Treasure.
 
Hardy and Christmas led the Lady Tigers with 10 points each. Benedict shot a season-low 25 percent (15-of-60) from the floor, and a season-low 13.6 percent (3-of-22) from 3-point range.
