JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Benedict College Tigers won the first set, but dropped the next three as Edward Waters took a 3-1 victory in a SIAC men's volleyball match on Saturday.
Edward Waters won the match 24-26, 25-18, 25-17, 27-25 to improve to 2-10 overall and 2-0 in the SIAC, sweeping the season series against Benedict. Benedict falls to 4-7 overall and 0-4 in the SIAC.
Camron Petillo had 11 kills to lead Benedict.
Kendersley Marcellin had 28 assists and a team-high 14 digs.
Edward Waters had a 19-16 lead in the first set, but Benedict scored the next three points to tie the score. Edward Waters had a 24-22 lead, but Benedict hung tough and scored the final four points, getting a kill by
Jared Brown for the final point.
Edward Waters scored seven of the final eight points to pull away from a close game and secure the win. Edward Waters used a 7-1 run in the third set to take a 14-9 lead, then closed out the set with the final four points.
The fourth set saw EWU slowly pull away late to take a 24-21 lead. But once again, Benedict held off and scored four points in a row to take a 25-24 lead. Edward Waters closed out with three points on a pair of kills and a Benedict error to close out the match.
Benedict hosts LeMoyne-Owen on Friday at 6 p.m.
