COLUMBIA, S.C. – Allen University outscored Benedict 11-8 in the second overtime to take an 81-78 victory in a SIAC women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon in Allen's Adams Gymnasium.
Gwendasia Page scored on a putback after an offensive rebound at the buzzer in regulation to tie the game and send it to overtime. In the first overtime, Benedict took a 70-68 lead after a 3-pointer by
Andrea Duncan. Allen tied the game with 31 seconds left on a layup to send the contest to a second overtime.
In the second overtime,
Alaysia Nash scored a layup with 2:17 left to play to give Benedict a 76-75 lead. The Lady Tigers went nearly two minutes without scoring, as Allen pulled ahead 79-76. Duncan scored a layup to cut the lead to 79-78 with 25 seconds remaining. Allen closed out the scoring with a pair of free throws with 10 seconds remaining.
Duncan led the Lady Tigers with 18 points, while Nash and
Jaleya Ford scored 17 points each.
Aaliyah Lawrence chipped in 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Benedict falls to 7-6 overall and 7-6 in the SIAC. Allen improves to 9-6 overall and 8-5 in the SIAC.
The Lady Tigers travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to take on Edward Waters on Monday.
