COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers hit a season-high .385 and cruised to a dominating 3-0 victory over Savannah State in a SIAC women's volleyball match on Thursday in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict won the match 25-12, 25-14, 25-14 to improve to 10-6 overall and 6-4 in the SIAC. Savannah State falls to 4-13 overall and 3-7 in the SIAC.
Angelic Carter had 10 kills while hitting .667 and recorded five solo blocks to lead the Lady Tigers.
Mia Burgess added eight kills and hit .636.
Willow Alls had 19 assists, while
Jayden Johnson added 15 assists.
Kelsey Joshua recorded a team-high eight digs.
Savannah State had an early 8-5 lead in the first set. Benedict scored the next four points to take a 9-8 lead. Savannah State tied the score on the next point, then the Lady Tigers went on a roll, scoring 16 of the next 19 points.
Benedict kept the momentum going in the second set, jumping out to an early 11-3 lead. Savannah State was able to cut the score to 17-11, but Benedict scored five of the next six points for a 22-12 lead. Benedict closed out the set on kills by
Krislenn Lucas and Carter, before an attack error by Savannah State finished the set.
The third set was tied 6-6 before the Lady Tigers scored the next 12 points behind the serving of
DeMyah Jackson for an 18-6 lead. A kill by Johnson and an attack error by Savannah State closed out the set.
Benedict travels to face Edward Waters on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. match.
