MORROW, Ga. – The Benedict College women's basketball team couldn't overcome a cold shooting second half, as Lane College rallied to take a 56-54 victory over the Lady Tigers in the quarterfinals of the 2026 SIAC Men's and Women's Basketball Championship presented by Toyota on Wednesday afternoon at The Arena at Southlake.
Benedict shot 12.5 percent (2-of-16) in the third quarter and 30.43 percent (7-of-23) in the fourth quarter as Lane rallied from a six-point deficit in the third quarter to take the lead and held on for the rest of the way to advance to the semifinals. Lane (21-5) will face Albany State on Friday.
Benedict wraps up the season at 17-9 overall.
The Lady Tigers held Lane to just 15 percent shooting (6-of-40) in the first half as they took as much as a nine-point lead, 19-10, and had a 22-18 lead at the half.
Benedict's last lead was 32-31 with 2:11 left in the third quarter. Lane hit a pair of free throws with two minutes on the clock and followed that with a 3-pointer and never trailed again.
The Dragons took their largest lead, 54-45, with 4:28 remaining in the game. Lane had a 56-48 lead with 2:38 left in the game, and the Lady Tigers staged a late rally, scoring the final six points of the game. Two free throws by
Aaliyah Lawrence cut the score to 56-54 with 41 seconds remaining, but Benedict missed four shots in the final 25 seconds.
The game was marked with poor shooting and turnovers by both teams. Lane missed 52 shots of their 70 attempts, while Benedict missed 50 of their 67 attempts, and the teams combined for 110 rebounds. Benedict had 28 turnovers, while Lane had 25 turnovers.
Alaysia Nash led Benedict with 18 points and had five steals. Lawrence had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
