Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Lady Tigers Take Down Fort Valley State, 3-0

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College women's volleyball team scored the first five points of the first set and stayed in control for the entire match to take a 3-0 victory over Fort Valley State in a SIAC match on Thursday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
 
The Lady Tigers won the match 25-21, 25-13, 25-17 to improve to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the SIAC. Fort Valley State falls to 4-9 overall and 3-2 in the SIAC.
 
Fort Valley State responded in that first set to take a brief lead, 8-7, before the Lady Tigers scored the next three points to take the lead and never trailed again. Fort Valley State was able to stay close and tied the score multiple times, the final time at 21-21. Benedict then closed out the set with the final four points. Jayden Johnson had a kill and Baileigh Tillman served an ace. After an attack error by the Lady Wildcats, Johnson closed out the set with another kill.
 
The Lady Tigers dominated the second set, jumping out to an early 8-3 lead, then had a six-point run for a 14-5 lead. After a FVSU point, Benedict scored four more points to increase the lead to 18-6. Benedict had a 23-9 lead before Fort Valley State scored four of the next five points. Benedict won the set on a FVSU attack error.
 
The third set started out close, with the score tied at 7-7 before the Lady Tigers scored seven of the next eight points to pull away for a 14-8 lead. The Lady Wildcats closed the gap to 18-14 before Benedict reeled off the next five points for a 23-14 lead. Tuskegee scored three of the next four points, but Desire' Young scored a kill to end the match.
 
Young and Mia Burgess led the Lady Tigers with seven kills each. Young hit .500, scoring her seven kills on 14 attacks without an error. Angelic Carter added six kills and was dominate at the net, recording six solo blocks. Willow Alls had 18 assists, while Johnson had 12. DeMyah Jackson led the defense with 13 digs, while Tillman added 11 digs.
 
Benedict plays at Albany State on Sunday at 2 p.m. before returning home to face Clinton College on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
