Demetrie McCray

Demetrie McCray begins his first season with the Benedict Tigers. Coach McCray will work with the defensive backs.

Coach McCray comes to Benedict from Twiggs County High School, where he served as defensive coordinator and head track coach from 2012-2015. Prior to that, he was a graduate assistant working with the defensive backs at Albany State University from 2009-2011. While working on Coach Mike White’s staff, the Golden Rams won a conference championship.

McCray was a three-year starter at defensive back for the Albany State Golden Rams. He earned first-team SIAC All-Conference honors in 2003 and 2005. He was selected the team’s best defensive back in 2003 and 2005. He finished his career with 15 interceptions and three conference championships.

He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education from Albany State in 2007. McCray played seven years in the arena football league and won a championship in 2011 with the Albany Panthers.

A native of Thomasville, Ga., McCray was an all-state defensive back at Thomasville High School and received a football scholarship to attend Albany State University.

McCray and his wife, Bridget, have two children – Skylar (7) and Demetrie Jr. (2).
