Benedict College Athletics

Shannon Showers joins the Benedict football coaching staff as the assistant defensive backs coach.

The Gainesville, Florida native comes to Benedict to reconnect with his former coach Ron Dickerson after serving as a Graduate Assistant and Corners Coach at Tusculum University in 2023.

During his playing career, he earned All-Gulf South Conference accolades at the University of West Florida. In his two seasons in Pensacola, he led the Argonauts to a pair of GSC titles and two trips to the NCAA Division II Playoffs. He Made 98 Tackles, 8 pass breakups, 2 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, and 2 fumble recoveries. His UWF teams went a combined 21-4 overall and 12-2 in conference play. He also earned all conference honors during his time in Pensacola.

He began his collegiate career at NCAA-FBS Southern Miss where he played in 23 games, including 10 starts. During his time there he accumulated 77 Tackles, 4 pass breakups, 3 interceptions, and 1 forced fumble. He also received Freshman all conference honors.

Showers holds an associate’s degree in psychology from Southern Miss in 2020 and completed his Bachelor of Science in psychology in 2021. He was a member of the Dean’s List and earned a spot on the GSC All-Academic Team in 2022.
