Marcus Goode scored a career-high 38 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to help spur the Benedict College Tigers to rally from a 19-point deficit to defeat the Miles College Golden Bears 68-65 Thursday night in an SIAC matchup.
The Tigers remained in first place in the SIAC standings as they improved to 8-3 overall and 7-2 in the SIAC. Miles fell to 7-7 overall and 7-5 in the SIAC.
Miles led 40-21 on a 3-pointer by Eric Lipkin with 2:44 left in the first half. The Tigers cut the lead to 40-25 at the half.
The Tigers scored the first seven points in the second half, all scored by Goode, to cut the lead to 40-32.
A layup by Goode tie the game at 54 with 8:18 left to play. A layup by
Mark Young gave the Tigers a 60-58 lead with 4:52 left to play. After Miles tied the game at 60, the Tigers scored the next six points and held on for the victory.
Antrjuan Albright added 12 points for the Tigers.
Lipkin led Miles with 24 points.
After shooting just 26.7 percent in the first half, making eight of 30 shots, the Tigers warmed up in the second half, making 51.7 percent. For the Golden Bears, it was the opposite. Miles shot 46.7 percent in the first half, but shot 26.7 percent (8-of-30) in the second half.
Benedict continues its road trip with a game at LeMoyne-Owen on Saturday.
