TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Benedict College men's basketball team dropped its fourth straight game, falling to the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers 76-72 on Saturday.
Benedict fell to 8-7 overall and 7-6 in the SIAC. Tuskegee improved to 9-6 overall and 9-4 in the SIAC.
Marcus Goode led Benedict with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Branden Herring added 12 points and
Antrjuan Albright chipped in 10.
Joshua Eichelberger led Tuskegee with 26 points. Javier McKinney and Calvin Thomas added 15 points each.
An early 9-0 run by the Golden Tigers gave Tuskegee a 15-4 lead. A 3-pointer by
Charles Taylor cut the lead to 23-17 with 8:11 left in the first half. But Tuskegee scored the next seven points to push the lead to 13 at 30-17. Tuskegee took a 43-33 lead at the half.
The Tigers rallied at the start of the second half, cutting the lead to 43-41 on a layup by
Rickie Jackson and the Tigers kept the game close for a while. A layup by
Justin Peeples made it 56-52 with 8:56 left to play. Tuskegee scored the next six points for a 10-point lead.
Albright made a four-point play with 3:54 to play to cut Tuskegee's lead to 64-59, but the Golden Tigers pushed the lead to 71-59 on a 3-pointer by Kevin May.
A layup by
Chance Rucker cut the lead to 73-69 with 40 seconds left, but Tuskegee hit one free throw and scored on a fast-break layup for a seven-point lead with 11 seconds left. A three-point play by Goode with two seconds left made the final score 76-72.
Benedict is at Stillman on Monday.
