Watson Wins 200th Game As Tigers Top Stillman

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Benedict College center Marcus Goode scored 31 points and head coach Fred Watson won his 200th career game as the Tigers defeated Stillman College 81-75 on Saturday at the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.

Goode had a team-high 12 rebounds and five blocks as the Tigers won their fifth straight game, winning all five games in their current homestand. Trevor Eichelberger added 16 points, while Tydran Beaty chipped in 13 points. Benedict improved to 13-8 overall and 12-7 in the SIAC.

Lee Riley led Stillman with 21 points, while Ladarius Rhone had 15. Damian Ford and Kenyour Williams had 14 points each. Stillman falls to 11-10 overall and 9-10 in the SIAC.

Benedict broke away from a 35-35 halftime score by scoring the first 10 points of the second half, including six straight points by Eichelberger. A layup by Beaty gave Benedict its biggest lead at 56-40 with 12:45 to play.

The Tigers had a 77-66 lead with 1:10 left on the clock when Stillman scored nine straight points in less than a minute to cut the lead to 77-75 with 16 seconds left. But the Tigers sank four free throws in the final 14 seconds to hold on to the victory.

The Tigers hit the road for four straight road games, starting with a trip to Albany State on Tuesday.
