AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Benedict College Tigers broke open a tight game with a 9-0 run late in the second half to defeat the Paine College Lions 64-55 on Saturday in an SIAC men's basketball game.
Sophomore guard
David Brailsford scored a career-high 12 points to lead the Tigers, who improved to 15-9 overall and 14-8 in the SIAC. Paine dropped to 12-12 overall and 11-11 in the SIAC.
Marcus Goode had 11 points and 11 rebounds, while
Rickie Jackson also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Lamar Adkins added 10 points.
Tydran Beaty had a season-high 10 rebounds.
The first half was tight, with neither team leading by more than four points. Benedict took a 27-25 lead into the locker room after a jumper by Jackson.
The second half remained close as well, with Paine's James Devlin tying the game at 46 with 6:02 to play on a three-point play. A dunk by Jackson ignited the Tigers on a 9-0 run for a 55-46 lead with 4:13 to play.
A layup by Paine's Geno Greene made it 57-50, but that is as close as the Lions would get, as the Tigers sealed the game at the free-throw line, making seven of 10 from the line.
Greene led Paine with 22 points.
The Tigers out-rebounded Paine 48-32. Benedict shot 40 percent for the game, but was just 1-of-10 on 3-pointers.
The Tigers continue their four-game road trip on Monday at Morehouse.
