COLUMBIA, SC -- The Benedict College men's tennis team went 4-1 in the first SIAC Round-Up as they hosted the event which drew all the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents.
The Tigers could not bounce back from a slow start in doubles matches and fell in their first match 5-2 against Fort Valley State. Zbisuso Ndimande and
Darreus Wheeler would pick up the only two points for the Tigers in their singles victories.
In their next match the Tigers would defeat Morehouse College 5-4. The Tigers fell behind 2-1 after doubles play.
Timothy Thornton would win the last and deciding match 3-6, 6-4, 8-6 to propel the Tigers to the victory. Ndimande,
Shane Latchman, and Wheeler would also collect victories in their matches.
The Tigers then took on Lemoyne-Owens and breezed past them 9-0. The Tigers then finished the Round up with a 6-3 victory over Tuskegee University. Ndimande won 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles to take his record to 8-3 overall and 5-0 in the SIAC conference. Latchman wrapped up a 4-0 weekend in the roundup with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles.
Darreus Wheeler held his No. 4 in three sets 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 and
Deangelo Smith won his first conference match 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 6 singles position.
