Benedict Tops Tuskegee, 72-68

Box Score TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Rickie Jackson scored a season-high 17 points to lead the Benedict College Tigers to a 72-68 victory over Tuskegee University on Thursday night in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball game.

Marcus Goode had a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds with five blocked shots as Benedict improved to 9-5 overall and 5-1 in the SIAC.

The Tigers had a 37-31 lead at the half. After a Brennan Reynard layup gave the Tigers a 53-50 lead with 11:06 left to play, the Golden Tigers scored a pair of field goals to take their only lead in the second half, 54-53, with 10:11 left to play.

Benedict came back with six straight points, including a fast-break layup by Xavier Collier, who finished with nine points and five assists, to push the lead to 59-54.

Tuskegee made it 64-61 with 5:08 to play, but Benedict got a 3-pointer by Reynard, who finished with 13 points. A layup by Reynard gave Benedict its largest lead in the second half, 70-63, with 2:14 left to play.

Tuskegee cut the lead to 70-68 with 50 seconds left. Collier hit two free throws with 11 seconds left to seal the game.

Benedict out-rebounded Tuskegee 46-29 and had a 21-9 advantage in second-chance points.

Tuskegee fell to 6-10 overall and 5-2 in the SIAC. Calvin Thomas led the Golden Tigers with 19 points.

The Tigers return home to face Albany State on Saturday at 3 p.m.
