COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers shot a season-best 68 percent and won their sixth straight game, beating Albany State 83-66 on Saturday afternoon in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict placed four players in double figures.
Tydran Beaty led the Tigers with 18 points, while
Marcus Goode had 17 points, a team-high eight rebounds and five blocked shots.
Xavier Collier and
Rickie Jackson each added 16 points.
The Tigers improved to 10-5 overall and 6-1 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
A 13-0 run in the first half gave the Tigers a 23-5 lead after a Goode jumper with 10:34 to play. The Tigers increased their lead to as much as 23 points, 43-20, on a
Brennan Reynard 3-pointer with 59 seconds left in the half before the Golden Rams were able to trim the lead to 43-25 at the break.
In the second half, the Tigers made it 48-27 on a jumper by Collier before the Golden Rams went on a 13-1 run to trim the lead under double-digits, 49-40, with 15:26 to play on a jumper by Antoine Brown. The Tigers scored the next eight points, with six points coming from Goode, to push the lead to 57-40 with 13:06 left to play. The Tigers kept a double-digit lead the rest of the way, holding as much as a 26-point lead on three occasions.
Albany State dropped to 2-11 overall and 1-6 in the SIAC. Justin Wilcox led the Golden Rams with 15 points.
Benedict is back in action on Monday, hosting Fort Valley State at 7:30 p.m.
