COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers snapped a three-match losing streak with a 3-0 victory over Paine College on Tuesday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict won 25-18, 25-15, 25-17 to improve to 14-9 overall and 11-5 in the SIAC. Paine fell to 10-17 overall and 6-8 in the SIAC.
Tatyana Robinson had 11 kills and hit .320 to lead the Lady Tigers.
Lorena Leao had nine kills, nine digs and two service aces.
Je'Nae Saunders had 26 digs, while
LaPromise Boone had 36 assists.
Benedict had a 12-5 lead in the first game, but Paine scored five straight points to cut the lead to 12-10. Benedict pushed the lead to 21-13. Leao closed out the game with a kill.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the second game and scored five straight points for a 17-7 lead. Leao closed out the game again with a kill.
Paine played closer in the third game and trailed just 14-10 midway through the game. Benedict scored the next three points to pull away. An attack error by Benedict made it 22-17, but Benedict closed out the match with three straight points, getting kills by Robinson and
Kiarra Pettway.
Benedict travels to face Claflin on Oct. 30, and will close out the regular season with a home non-conference match against Johnson C. Smith on Nov. 2.
