COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College men's basketball team won their first game of the season with a 75-59 victory over Coker College in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The Tigers, 1-3, got 22 points from 
Andrew Crawford, who hit six 3-pointers. 
Deonte Johnson had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. 
Kareem Ransom added 10 points, while 
Brennan Reynard scored eight points and dished out a career-high 12 assists.
Errick Bethel led Coker, now 3-3, with 14 points.
Benedict held Coker to 33.3 percent shooting and the Tigers outrebounded the Cobras 32-24.
The Tigers opened the game with a 3-pointer by Ransom and scored the first five points of the game.
Coker held a 24-20 lead after a 3-pointer by Aubrey Daniel with 4:27 left in the first half, but the Tigers got a layup by Johnson and a 3-pointer by Crawford to take a 25-24 lead and the Tigers pulled away for a 39-30 lead at the half.
In the second half, Coker cut the lead to 50-46 with 11:27 left to play, but the Tigers stormed back with 10 straight points. Johnson hit a pair of free throws and Crawford followed with a 3-pointer. Johnson scored a layup and Reynard drilled a 3-pointer for a 60-46 lead with 8:45 left to play.
The Tigers travel to take on USC Aiken on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
