COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Brennan Reynard scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Benedict College Tigers to an 89-76 victory over Carver College in a non-conference men's basketball game on Wednesday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The junior point guard also added nine assists and six steals, both game highs, for the Tigers, who improved to 2-4 on the season.
Andrew Crawford had 15 points, followed by
Kareem Ransom and
Jose Roman-Angueira with 11 points each.
Jamil Saaka led Carver, now 0-11, with 21 points.
The first half was a back-and-forth match.
Roberto Mantovani scored on a layup with 21 seconds left to give the Tigers a 49-48 lead at the half.
The Tigers opened the second half with a three-point play by
Kareem Ransom and never trailed in the second half. Carver cut the lead to 65-64 on a pair of free throws by Donovan Gardner, but the Tigers scored eight straight points for a 73-64 lead.
Benedict travels to play Life University on Saturday at 4 p.m. for its final game in 2014. The Tigers begin SIAC play with a home game against Stillman on Saturday, Jan. 3 at 3 p.m.
