RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. –
London Richardson scored 21 points to lead Benedict College to a 67-60 victory over 12
th-ranked Arkansas Tech on Sunday and keep the Lady Tigers unbeaten.
Benedict, now 5-0, used an 11-0 run in the second half to take a 39-38 lead after a layup by
Britenique Harrison.
Arkansas Tech took a 49-48 lead with 7:55 left to play, their last lead of the contest. Benedict regained the lead on a layup by
Ta'Narnia Chisley and
Brittney Belton followed with a steal and layup, then Richardson connected on a jumper for a 54-49 lead and Benedict held on for the win.
Arkansas Tech lost for the first time this season and dropped to 8-1. Coming into the contest, the Golden Suns were ranked 12
th in the Women's Basketball Division II Media Poll and 18
th in the USA Today / WBCA Top 25 poll.
Jacinda Myers-Sanders led Arkansas Tech with 17 points.
Arkansas Tech had a 34-26 lead at the half as the Lady Tigers shot 34.6 percent. In the second half, Benedict improved to 60.7 percent shooting, while holding the Golden Suns to 37.5 percent shooting in the second half.
Benedict travels to Boca Raton, Fla., next week to take part in the Lynn University holiday tournament. Benedict will take on St. Leo on Saturday at noon, then take on host Lynn on Sunday at 2 p.m.
