BOCA RATON, Fla. – St. Leo rallied from an 11-point second-half deficit to hand the Benedict College Lady Tigers their first loss of the season, taking a 77-75 victory over Benedict on Saturday in the Blue & White Tournament, hosted by Lynn University.
Benedict had a 49-38 lead after a
Britenique Harrison layup with 18:26 left to play. Lynn rallied back to take its first lead since early in the first half, 67-65, on a layup by Monique Bunk.
A tip-in by
KaDeeja Vaughn tied the game at 71 with 1:35 left to play, but Maggie Flynn hit a 3-pointer for the Lions.
Kari Jones sank two free throws to cut the lead to one. Benedict missed two shots and had a turnover in the final minute.
The Lady Tigers fall to 5-1 on the season. Saint Leo improved to 5-4.
Harrison and Vaughn led Benedict with 14 points each, while
London Richardson added 13.
Kristine Lesane had a team-high nine rebounds. Benedict had a 49-27 rebounding advantage, which gave them a 26-7 advantage in second-chance points.
Bunk led Saint Leo with 32 points.
Benedict will face host Lynn on Sunday at 2 p.m.
