WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –
London Richardson scored all of her 12 points in the second half to help lead a second-half rally as the Benedict College Tigers beat Winston-Salem State 52-46 on Wednesday night.
Benedict fell behind by as much as 11 points in the first half and trailed 27-22 at the half. The Lady Tigers held the Lady Rams to 21.7 percent shooting in the second half to improve to 4-0 on the season. Winston-Salem State dropped to 2-5.
KaDeeja Vaughn also had 12 points, while
Britenique Harrison had a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
A three-point play by Vaughn gave Benedict its first lead, 30-29 with 16:24 in the second half. After a
London Richardson jumper gave the Lady Tigers a 37-32 lead with 12:21 left to play, Winston-Salem State's Dionna Scott scored a layup to make it 37-34 with 12 minutes left. Then the Lady Rams went more than four and a half minutes without scoring as Benedict built a 41-34 lead. Winston-Salem State scored the next six points to cut the lead to 41-40, but the Lady Tigers scored the next five points for a 46-40 lead with 3 minutes on the clock.
Jasmine Carter followed with a 3-pointer for Winston-Salem State to make it 46-43 with 2:36 remaining before Harrison scored a layup and Richardson sank a pair of free throws for a seven-point cushion, 50-43, with 2:13 left.
Carter led WSSU with 13 points.
Next up for the Lady Tigers is a road trip to Russellville, Ark., to take on Arkansas Tech on Dec. 14 at 4 p.m.
