Tigers Rally To Beat Paine, 78-74

Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Benedict College Tigers rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit and went on to defeat the Paine Lions 78-74 on Saturday.

Benedict improved to 15-10 overall and 10-7 in the SIAC. Paine fell to 14-11 overall and 9-6 in the SIAC.

The Paine Lions scored the first 12 points of the game, and had a 41-30 lead at the half. Benedict scored the first six points of the second half, and took its first lead of the game, 53-51, on a layup by Brennan Reynard with 10:09 left to play.

The Tigers took the lead for good on a pair of free throws by Lamar Adkins with 3:02 left to play. Deonte Johnson added two free throws for a 70-66 lead. Paine's Adrian Caldwell scored a layup, but Kareem Ransom answered with a 3-pointer to give the Tigers a 73-68 lead with 1:34 left to play.

Johnson led the Tigers with 18 points and eight rebounds. Adkins added 14 points, scoring 13 in the second half. Reynard had 13 points and seven assists.

Kedric Taylor led Paine with 19 points, while Toby Veal had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Benedict shot 35 percent in the first half, but improved to 57 percent in the second half.

The Tigers will wrap up the regular season on Tuesday with a road game at Morehouse.
