COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College men's tennis team went 4-1 during the SIAC Tennis Roundup Tournament, hosted by Benedict.
On Thursday, the Tigers defeated LeMoyne-Owen, 7-0, and Morehouse, 6-3. On Friday, Benedict beat Tuskegee, 6-3 and blanked Fort Valley State 5-0. On Saturday, Benedict suffered its first conference loss, falling to Stillman, 6-3.
Giovanni Plater won all five of his matches during the tournament, playing at No. 4 singles. He won a marathon match on Saturday over Stillman's Yonwaba Pupuma, winning 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 14-12. He also went 4-1 in doubles play with partner
Shane Latchman.
Latchman went 4-1 during the tournament, falling to Morehouse College's Kahai Hall at No. 1 singles. He went 4-0 in his other matches at No. 3 singles.
Farrukh Edgerov went 3-1 at No. 5 singles for the Tigers, including a key 6-3, 6-7 (7-4), 7-6 (7-2) victory over Morehouse's Noah Terry as Benedict topped the Maroon Tigers 6-3.
Takudswa Muswere went 3-1, playing No. 1 singles in three matches, and No. 3 singles against Morehouse. He also went undefeated at No. 2 doubles with partner
Justin Payton.
The Tigers are now 5-3 on the season. They will play at Coker College in Hartsville on Tuesday.
