COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Kristine Lesane scored a season-high 21 points to help lead the Benedict College Lady Tigers to a 66-57 victory over Kentucky State on Thursday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict won its third straight game and improved to 10-4 overall and 5-1 in the SIAC. Kentucky State fell to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in the SIAC.
Benedict held a 46-39 lead with 11:44 left in the game when the Thorobrettes went on an 8-1 run to tie the game at 47 after a layup by Shaquanda Wiggins with 6:24 on the clock. The Lady Tigers then scored the next 12 points to take control and held on for the win.
Dorothy Brown had a 3-pointer in that run and Lesane had a steal and a layup. Brown finished with 13 points, hitting three 3-pointers.
Britenique Harrison added 12 points.
Wiggins and Shayla Moore led Kentucky State with 17 points each.
Benedict won the game at the free-throw line, hitting 25 of 34 attempts, while Kentucky State made just half of its free throws, making 11 of 22 attempts. The Lady Tigers also made half of their 3-point attempts, making five of 10 attempts, while Kentucky State was 4-of-12 from behind the arc.
The Lady Tigers are back in action on Saturday with a home conference contest against Lane at 1 p.m.
