COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers built as much as a 35-point lead in the first half and cruised to an 87-55 victory over Lane College on Saturday in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena on Saturday afternoon for their fourth straight victory.
Destiny Betts scored a season-high 20 points and
Britenique Harrison added 13 points.
Maya Nelson grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds as Benedict dominated on the boards, 49-35. The Lady Tigers scored 20 second-chance points, and scored 26 points off Lane's 19 turnovers.
Benedict improved to 10-4 overall and 5-1 in the SIAC. Lane remained winless at 0-11 overall and 0-5 in the SIAC.
Two free throws by Harrison kicked off a 7-0 run with 12:50 left in the first half to give the Lady Tigers a double-digit lead they never relinquished. Benedict led 32-12 with 9:06 left in the half when the Lady Tigers went on a 15-0 run, holding Lane scoreless for five and a half minutes to build a 47-12 lead. Benedict held a 55-25 lead at the half.
In the second half, Benedict had a 39-point lead, 76-39, on a
Carissa Shropshire layup with 11:11 left to play.
Crystal Rayford led Lane with 16 points, while Chloe Roberts added 11.
Benedict placed 12 players in the scoring column.
Benedict is back in action on Thursday, when they take on Albany State at home, with tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
