COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers snapped a three-game losing streak and opened Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with an 80-60 victory over Stillman on Saturday afternoon at the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The Lady Tigers placed three players in double figures as
KaDeeja Vaughn had 16 points, while
Kristine Lesane and
London Richardson added 15 points each.
Benedict improved to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in the SIAC. Stillman fell to 0-9 overall and 0-1 in the SIAC.
Stillman had its only lead of the game at 16-15 midway through the first half, before the Lady Tigers scored eight straight points for a 23-16 lead. Stillman trailed 26-20 with six minutes left in the half when Benedict scored the next eight points, getting a layup and a 3-pointer by Vaughn, to take a 34-20 lead. Benedict led 41-28 at the half.
Benedict used a 13-0 run in the second half to build a 58-34 lead with 12:57 left to play. Richardson capped off the run with a 3-pointer. Benedict had its largest lead, 64-38, on a
Raveen Scales layup with 9:40 to play.
Angel Mitchell led Stillman with 17 points, while Raven Chislom had 11 and Joclyn Ramos added 10.
Benedict returns to action on Monday with a conference game against Tuskegee at 5:30 p.m.Â
