MEMPHIS, Tenn. – LeMoyne-Owen University outscored Benedict 10-4 in the second overtime to take a 54-48 victory in an SIAC women's basketball contest Thursday night.
The Lady Tigers took a 48-47 lead in the second overtime on a jumper by
Amanda Toliver with three minutes to play, but the Lady Magicians scored the final seven points of the game to pull out the win. Benedict's final four possessions resulted in three turnovers and a missed free throw.
Benedict fell to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the SIAC. LeMoyne-Owen improved to 7-3 overall and 3-0 in the SIAC.
Kristine Lesane led Benedict with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Ta'Narnia Chisley had 13 rebounds as Benedict had a 58-39 rebounding advantage.
Benedict shot 32.7 percent, but held LeMoyne-Owen to just 21.9 percent shooting.
Benedict had a 33-26 lead with 6:45 left in regulation, but LeMoyne-Owen scored six straight points, all on free throws.
KaDeeja Vaughn hit a 3-pointer to push Benedict's lead to 36-32 with 2:09 left in the second half. Three free throws by LeMoyne-Owen cut the lead to 36-35 with 1:40 on the clock. Maraja Johnson hit one of two free throws with eight seconds left to tie the game.
In the first overtime, LeMoyne-Owen's Zantrell Brown made one of two free throws with 54 seconds left to tie the game at 44. Vaughn missed a 3-pointer for Benedict and the game went to the second overtime.
The Lady Tigers continue their road trip with a conference game against Spring Hill College at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Mobile, Ala.
