COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory over Fort Valley State University on Sunday afternoon in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict won 25-10, 25-15, 25-10 to improve to 11-10 overall and 10-7 in the SIAC. Fort Valley State fell to 4-13 overall and 1-13 in the SIAC.
Aaliyah Lawson led Benedict with 11 kills and hit .688.
Brianne McMillian had a game-high 11 digs, while
Je'Nae Saunders had 32 assists. Benedict also recorded seven service aces.
Benedict scored the first six points of the match and jumped out to a 14-2 lead in the first set.
Benedict had an early 9-2 lead in the second set, but Fort Valley State cut the lead to 13-7. Benedict pushed the lead back to 22-12, then won the set on an ace by
Majda Cisic.
Lawson served for nine straight points in the third set as Benedict jumped out to a 15-2 lead. The Wildcats used a six-point run to cut the lead to 16-9. With Benedict leading 20-10, Saunders served the final five points, getting a pair of kills and a block from
Jocolby Brown.
Benedict is on the road on Wednesday to take on Johnson C. Smith at 7 p.m. before returning home to take on Edward Waters on Friday at 6 p.m.
