FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers used a 22-point run in the third period to take an 82-63 victory over Fort Valley State in a non-conference basketball game on Monday night.
Regime McCombs scored 21 points and
Terri Jacobs and
Destiny Betts both had double-doubles for the Lady Tigers. McCombs connected on five 3-pointers and had eight steals. Jacobs had 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Betts had 11 points and 12 rebounds.
KaDeeja Vaughn added nine points, five rebounds and a team-high seven assists.
Benedict outscored Fort Valley State 37-19 in the third period to pull away and claim their third straight win of the 2015-16 season. Fort Valley State fell to 1-5.
The Lady Wildcats scored the final four points of the second period to cut Benedict's lead to 25-22 at the half. After Fort Valley State sank a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 27-26 early in the third period, the Lady Tigers scored the next 22 points for a 49-26 lead with 4:01 left in the period. McCombs connected on three consecutive 3-pointers during that run.
Benedict built its biggest lead, 79-49, on a layup by
Kari Jones with 4:52 left in the game.
Benedict held Fort Valley State to 18.2 percent shooting in the first half and 29.4 percent for the game.
The Lady Tigers play at Central State on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in their first SIAC contest of the season.
