Lady Tigers Roll Over Central State, 78-60

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The 25th-ranked Benedict College Lady Tigers won their fourth straight game with a 78-60 victory over Central State University in their SIAC opener Thursday night.

Regime McCombs led the Lady Tigers with 21 points, hitting five 3-pointers. KaDeeja Vaughn had a strong all-around game with 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and a team-high three blocked shots. Dorothy Brown added 12 points and dished out a team-high five assists. DaVontaye Merritt grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.

Benedict improved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the SIAC. Central State dropped to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the SIAC.

Benedict never trailed in the game, and the game was tied once at 9-9. Benedict had a 23-16 lead before Central State's Lakayra Carlisle hit a 3-pointer right before the half to cut the lead to 23-19 at the break.

The Lady Tigers increased the lead to 52-42 on a layup by Vaughn to take a 10-point lead into the fourth period.

Benedict used an 8-1 run in the fourth period, with McCombs hitting a 3-pointer in that stretch, to take a 57-51 lead with 4:07 left in the game. A free-throw by Vaughn gave the Lady Tigers their biggest lead, 78-58, with 22 seconds left. Central State's Ashley Dennis hit two free throws with 16 seconds remaining to close out the game.

Ghameerah McCullers led Central State with 12 points.

Benedict continues its conference road trip with a contest against Lane College at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
