Lady Tigers Roll Over Erskine, 89-62

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The 24th-ranked Benedict College Lady Tigers jumped out to an early big lead and cruised to an 89-62 victory over Erskine College on Monday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.

Benedict improved to 7-1 on the season. Erskine fell to 0-8.

Terri Jacobs led the Lady Tigers with 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. She was one of five Benedict players who scored in double figures. Regime McCombs scored 13, making four 3-pointers, while freshman Ph'Fronia Dixon scored a season-high 13 points. Destiny Betts scored 11 points, while Dorothy Brown chipped in 10 points. DaVontaye Merritt grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

Benedict scored the first 10 points of the game and took a 30-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.

A 3-pointer by Dixon gave Benedict a 53-32 lead with 14 seconds left in the first half before Erskine's Christian Brown hit a jumper at the buzzer to cut the lead to 53-34 at the break. Benedict built the lead to 26 points, 69-43, by the end of the third period. The Lady Tigers took their biggest lead, 86-51, on a layup by Betts with 3:44 left in the game.

Benedict held Erskine to 28.1 percent shooting for the game and 17.65 percent in the second half. Benedict outrebounded Erskine 51-41.

Benedict travels to Florida for three games this week, starting with Palm Beach Atlantic on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
