COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College men's tennis team defeated Spring Hill College 5-4 in action Friday in the SIAC Roundup tournament, and followed that with an 8-1 victory over Morehouse College.
After taking easy 5-0 victories over LeMoyne-Owen College and Lane College in opening round action on Thursday, the Tigers passed their first test against Spring Hill College.
Spring Hill held a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
Shane Latchman and
Zibusiso Ndimande paired up for an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles over Andrew Risley and Alejandro Hastings Oro. Benedict took the top singles matches to secure the victory.
Takudswa Muswere took a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Hastings Oro. Ndimande picked up a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Lars Bahjor, while Latchman took a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Martin Jaramillo. The Tigers clinched the match when
Justin Payton took a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Sebastian Arias at No. 4 singles.
Benedict followed that with an 8-1 victory over Morehouse.
Benedict resumes roundup action on Saturday with a match against defending SIAC champion Stillman at noon at the Columbia Tennis Center, then takes on Tuskegee at 3 p.m. at Greenview Park.
