COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Florida Tech Panthers pounded out six home runs on a blustery day to defeat the Benedict College Tigers 28-7 on Sunday and sweep the series.
Benedict jumped out to an early lead, as
Ray Santiago blasted a two-run homer in the first inning. Florida Tech tied the game with a pair of runs in the second inning, but the Tigers pulled ahead with four runs in the bottom of the second. David White had a two-run homer for the Tigers.
Florida Tech cut the lead to 6-5 in the third inning thanks to a two-run homer by Ricky Rodriguez. Benedict added a run in the bottom of the third on a solo home run by
John Holleran.
The Panthers (4-0) took the lead with six runs in the fourth inning, then exploded for 10 runs in the fifth inning.
After collecting eight hits in the first three innings, the Tigers managed just three hits over the final six innings.
Benedict (1-5) travels to take on North Greenville University on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
