FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers held Fort Valley State to 28 percent shooting and took a 74-57 victory on Monday night in an SIAC women's basketball contest.
Kristine Lesane and
KaDeeja Vaughn each had a double-double for the Lady Tigers, who improved to 17-5 overall and 12-2 in the SIAC. Fort Valley State fell to 8-17 and 6-8.
Lesane and Vaughn each had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Benedict.
Britenique Harrison added 11 points and
Ta'Narnia Chisley chipped in 10 points.
Benedict had a 61-46 rebounding advantage.
Benedict used a 10-0 run early in the game to build a 12-3 lead, but Fort Valley State rallied to take an 18-17 lead with 8:02 left in the first half. The Lady Wildcats built as much as a 27-21 lead, but the Lady Tigers outscored them 17-2 over the final four and a half minutes for a 38-29 halftime lead.
Benedict took a 43-31 lead early in the second half after a layup by
Destiny Betts, but Fort Valley State cut the lead to 45-40 with 14:45 after a 3-pointer by Antionna Jefferson. Benedict built the lead back to 15 points, 59-44, after a pair of free throws by Vaughn. The Lady Tigers maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
Benedict returns home to take on Clark Atlanta University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
