COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College baseball team swept a conference doubleheader over Albany State University on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Benedict won the first game 5-0 as
Robert Troiano III and
Yaniel Delgado combined for a five-hit shutout. Benedict scored its first run in the first inning as
Shomarii Thomas hit a single to center field to score
Daniel Young from second base.
Mitchell Dixon had a two-run double in the fifth inning.
In the second game, the Tigers trailed 4-3 after three complete innings. Benedict rallied with five runs in the bottom of the fifth.
David White Jr. had an RBI single to score
Kevin Davis to tie the score at 4-4. Benedict took the lead when Thomas had a double to right field to score Young.
Ray Santiago had a sacrifice fly to score another run and Dixon drove home another run with a single to center field. Dixon later scored on a passed ball to make it 8-4.
The Tigers improved to 10-12 on the season and 5-2 in the SIAC. Albany State drops to 7-22 overall and 1-3 in the SIAC. The two teams are scheduled to play the third game in the series at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
