COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College softball team celebrated Senior Day on Sunday with a 7-4 victory over Fort Valley State at King Park.

The Lady Tigers honored seven seniors:
Cecelia Lykes,
Kelsey Green,
BerGearia Major,
Jasmin Sledge,
Victoria Bratton,
Alexandria McColley and
Asia Benn. Once the game started, the seniors were instrumental in Benedict's victory.

Bratton got the Lady Tigers on the board with a two-run home run in the second inning. After Fort Valley cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the third, Sledge hit an RBI double to score
Torcealon Kelly in the bottom half of the inning to give Benedict a 3-1 advantage. Kelly had an RBI double to left field in the fourth for a 4-1 lead.

Fort Valley cut the lead to 4-2 in the fifth when a Benedict error allowed the Wildcats to score a run.

In the fifth inning,
Sabriya Brooks hit a two-out single to score Sledge, then Benn singled to right field to bring home Major and Brooks, giving the Lady Tigers a 7-2 lead. Fort Valley State added single runs in the sixth and seventh to cut the lead to 7-4.

Bratton and Benn each went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Sledge was 2-for-2 with one RBI and two runs scored. Kelly went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

The Lady Tigers improve to 11-24 overall and 6-10 in the SIAC. Fort Valley State falls to 10-20 and 10-5. Benedict will wrap up the regular season next weekend against rival Claflin in Orangeburg. They will play a single game on Friday at 5 p.m., then wrap the series with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 2 p.m.
