SUMTER, S.C. – Benedict's
Ray Santiago, in his first mound appearance of the season, threw a perfect game to help the Tigers sweep a doubleheader from Morris College on Thursday afternoon.
Santiago faced the minimum 21 batters, striking out seven, with five ground outs and nine fly outs, as the Tigers won 11-0 in the second game of a doubleheader.
Christopher Lail had a strong mound outing in the first game, allowing just one hit and striking out 11 in an 11-1 victory.
Rodney Beach and
Mitchell Dixon each went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the first game. The Tigers stole 14 bases.
Not only was Santiago perfect on the mound, he went 3-for-4 with three RBIs in the second game.
Daniel Young had a home run and went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Armando Valentin was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Benedict, now 15-14 overall, has a three-game conference series against Morehouse College this weekend. They will play a doubleheader starting at noon on Friday, with a single game on Saturday at 1 p.m.
