COLUMBIA, S.C. – The 17
th-ranked Benedict College Lady Tigers won their 12
th straight game with a 72-64 victory over Spring Hill College on Thursday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Terri Jacobs led the Lady Tigers with 14 points, while
Sarah Green added 12 points.
Benedict improved to 17-1 overall and 7-1 in the SIAC. Spring Hill fell to 5-10 overall and 3-3 in the SIAC.
Jennifer Clark led Spring Hill with 22 points.
After the first period ended tied at 17, the Lady Tigers pulled away in the second period, outscoring the Badgers 18-8 to take a 35-25 lead at the half.
Benedict increased the lead to as much as 17 points, 48-31, on a 3-pointer by
Dorothy Brown with 4:43 left in the third period. Spring Hill trimmed the lead to 52-40 heading into the fourth period.
Spring Hill scored the first nine points of the fourth period to make it 52-49 after a 3-pointer by Natalie Harper. The Lady Tigers answered with a layup by
KaDeeja Vaughn and a jumper by
Destiny Betts to make it 56-49. Spring Hill's Clark sank two free throws with 1:26 to play to make it 67-63, but Vaughn hit a big 3-pointer with one minute left on the clock for a 70-63 lead.
Benedict is back in action next Thursday, Jan. 21, with a home game against Fort Valley State at 5:30 p.m.
