COLUMBIA, S.C. – The 15
th-ranked Benedict College Lady Tigers stretched their winning streak to 13 games with a dominating 83-61 victory over Fort Valley State University on Thursday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Terri Jacobs scored a season-high 19 points and
KaDeeja Vaughn added 16 points for the Lady Tigers, who improved to 18-1 overall and 8-1 in the SIAC. Fort Valley State dropped to 4-13 overall and 3-5 in the SIAC.
Benedict used an 18-1 run in the first quarter to take a 22-6 lead and never looked back. The Lady Tigers led by as much as 23 points in the second quarter before Fort Valley State closed the gap to 39-23 at the half. Benedict closed out the third quarter with a 12-1 run to increase the lead to 67-36. A 3-pointer by
Ieisha Hopwood early in the fourth period made it 71-36 and gave the Lady Tigers their largest lead of the game, 35 points.
Benedict forced 21 Fort Valley State turnovers and scored 18 points off turnovers. Benedict also out-rebounded the Lady Wildcats 40-30 and had an 18-5 advantage on second-chance points.
Benedict is back in action on Saturday, hosting Albany State at 1 p.m.
