COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Terri Jacobs had her second straight double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds to help lead the Benedict College Lady Tigers to a 71-62 SIAC victory over Miles College on Monday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict improved to 14-1 overall and 4-1 in the SIAC with their ninth straight victory. Miles fell to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in the SIAC with their first conference loss.
The Lady Tigers, the nation's top rebounding team in Division II, dominated the boards with 47 rebounds compared to 25 for Miles. Benedict had more defensive rebounds, 30, than Miles had total rebounds. Benedict had a 22-11 advantage in second-chance points.
Regime McCombs added 10 points for Benedict.
Miles had a one-point lead twice early in the contest, and the score was tied 8-8 when Jacobs scored on a short jumper and the Lady Tigers never trailed again. Benedict built a 23-13 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 34-28 at the half. Benedict built as much as a 17-point lead in the third period, 49-32, on a jumper by
KaDeeja Vaughn. Benedict held its largest lead, 71-53, with 1:52 left to play after a three-point play by Vaughn.
Benedict hits the road for a pair of games at Stillman on Thursday and LeMoyne-Owen on Saturday, before returning home to face Spring Hill on Thursday, Jan. 14.
