COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Aaliyah Lawson had a triple-double to lead Benedict to a 3-1 SIAC volleyball victory over Albany State on Saturday morning.
Benedict won the match 25-20, 18-25, 25-23, 25-22 to improve to 11-11 overall and 7-5 in the SIAC. Albany State fell to 13-12 overall and 9-6 in the SIAC.
Lawson had a team-high 16 kills, a team-high 19 assists and 10 digs for her second triple-double of the season.
Arneshia Parrish added 13 kills.
V'Aira Harris had a team-best 23 digs and 16 assists for a double-double.
Majda Cisic (13) and
Torcealon Kelley (12) also reached double-figure digs.
Benedict scored the first 10 points of the first set, but Albany State put together an 11-point run later in the set to take a 16-15 lead. Benedict closed out the set by scoring four of the final five points for the 25-20 win.
Albany State scored seven straight points to take an 11-2 lead and went on take the 25-18 win.
The Golden Rams had a 22-21 lead in the third set, but Benedict pulled ahead on kills by Lawson and Parrish. Parrish scored a kill for the final point in the 25-23 win.
The fourth set was also close, with Benedict breaking a 19-19 tie with three straight points. Albany State made it 23-22, but a kill by
Adrionna Washington and a Golden Ram attack error closed out the match.
Benedict will take on Fort Valley State in a conference doubleheader on Monday starting at 4 p.m.
