COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers swept a pair of SIAC volleyball matches from Fort Valley State on Monday in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict won the first match 3-1, taking the sets 25-10, 23-25, 25-23, 25-14. Benedict cruised to a 3-0 win the second match, winning the sets 25-18, 25-15, 25-18. Benedict improves to 13-11 overall and 9-5 in the SIAC. Fort Valley State falls to 6-13 overall and 4-11 in the SIAC. The teams were forced to play a doubleheader when the match scheduled for Oct. 8 in Fort Valley was postponed due to displaced Savannah State University students staying in the Fort Valley State gymnasium during Hurricane Matthew.
Aaliyah Lawson had her second straight triple-double in the first match with a team-high 15 kills, 12 digs and 10 assists.
V'Aira Harris also had a triple double with 14 kills, 18 assists and 15 digs.
Brianne McMillian had a team-best 20 assists, while
Majda Cisic led the team with 18 digs.
Lawson and Harris had double-doubles in the second match. Harris had a team-high 15 kills to go along with 13 digs. Lawson had 13 kills and 12 digs. McMillian also had a double-double with 25 assists to go along with 11 digs. Cisic had a team-high 15 digs.
Benedict continues its home stretch with three more home matches this week, starting with a conference contest against Clark Atlanta on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Benedict also has non-conference games against Johnson C. Smith on Thursday and Shaw on Saturday.
