AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Benedict College men's basketball team dropped to 0-2 on the season following a 79-70 loss to Augusta University on Tuesday night.
The Tigers had an early lead before the Jaguars took the lead at 16-15 on a three-point play with 12:15 left in the first half and Benedict never led again.
Augusta used a 14-2 run late in the first half to take a 40-27 lead at the half. The Jaguars led by as many as 18 points early in the second half, but Benedict rallied to cut the lead to six points, 52-46, on a layup by
Umar Frost with 12:23 left to play, but the Tigers could not get any closer.
Brandon Morris led the Tigers with 26 points.
Justice Morgan was the only other Tiger to score in double figures, chipping in 13 points.
Augusta improved to 4-1 on the season. The Jaguars had five players score in double figures, with Tyvez Monroe leading the way with 16 points. Augusta out-rebounded Benedict 38-26, including a 19-8 advantage in second-chance points.
Benedict returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Ohio to take on Central State University in a non-conference matchup at Akron Buchtel High School in Akron, Ohio.
