FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers held Fort Valley State to 26.5 percent shooting and took a 69-56 victory in a non-conference women's basketball game on Saturday in the Jessie A. Brown Memorial Classic.
Zairra Harris led Benedict with 14 points, while
Raven Baker scored 10 points.
Destiny Betts had a team-high eight rebounds.
The Lady Tigers, now 3-3 on the season, went on a 15-2 run in the second period to take a 35-24 lead with 41 seconds left in the first half, and had a 37-27 lead at the break. Benedict held its largest lead, 49-33, after a 3-pointer by Baker in the third period.
Fort Valley State, now 0-6, shot 18-of-68, including 9-of-42 (21.4 percent) in the second half.
Benedict plays its first home game of the season on Thursday against Central State University at 5:30 p.m. in their SIAC opener.
