Quayshun Hawkins scored 28 points, hitting five 3-pointers, to help lead the Benedict College Tigers to a 96-76 victory over Southern Wesleyan University in the consolation game of the Wesleyan Way Invitational Tournament, hosted by Kentucky Wesleyan.
Brandon Morris added 26 points for the Tigers, who improved to 3-4 on the season. Southern Wesleyan dropped to 2-9.
The Tigers shot a season-high 53.8 percent from the floor. Benedict also shot a season-high 57.1 percent (12-for-21) from 3-point range.
Jaylin Gilbert opened the game with a 3-pointer and the Tigers led from start to finish. Benedict had a 15-point lead, 54-39, at the half. Benedict held its largest lead, 92-65, after a 3-pointer by Hawkins with 3:54 left in the game.
Benedict travels to Florida for a game against Saint Leo on Monday before taking a break for the Christmas holiday.
