Saint Leo Spoils Betts' Record-Setting Performance, 93-84 In Overtime

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Saint Leo outscored Benedict 16-8 in the fourth quarter to rally and tie the game, then went on to take a 93-84 victory over the Lady Tigers in the Courtyard Holiday Classic, hosted by Lynn University on Saturday.

The loss spoiled a record-setting performance by Benedict senior Destiny Betts, who scored a career-high 30 points and grabbed a career-high 32 rebounds, the most by any NCAA player this season, men and women in all divisions. It is also tied for fifth-most rebounds in a single game in NCAA Division II women's basketball history.

Benedict had a 50-38 lead at the half, as Betts finished with 23 points and 19 rebounds after the first 20 minutes of play.

A 3-pointer by MiKeisha Moore gave the Lady Tigers a 55-41 lead with 8:51 to play in the third quarter. Saint Leo cut the lead to 68-60 heading into the fourth quarter. An eight-point run by Saint Leo early in the fourth quarter cut the lead to two points, 70-68. Saint Leo tied the game at 76 on a layup with 17 seconds left. Benedict had a shot attempt before the buzzer, but the Lady Lions blocked the shot.

In overtime, Saint Leo scored the first four points and never trailed.

Moore added 20 points for Benedict. LeAnna Morrison, playing in her first game of the season, added 12 points.

Benedict falls to 6-6 on the season. Saint Leo improves to 4-5.

Benedict will take on tournament host Lynn on Sunday at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
