BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers dropped their second straight game in the Courtyard Holiday Classic, falling to Lynn University 65-57 on Sunday afternoon.
Benedict led by as many as nine points, 18-9, midway through the second quarter before Lynn scored 10 straight points to briefly take the lead. Benedict held a 23-22 lead at the halftime break.
The Lady Tigers had a 30-29 lead in the third quarter on a layup by Shirvel Luke, but the Fighting Knights outscored Benedict 13-2 to take a 10-point lead with 3:28 left in the quarter. A 3-pointer by MiKeisha Moore at the buzzer cut the lead to 46-41 heading into the fourth quarter.
Benedict opened the fourth quarter with a pair of free throws by Luke to cut the lead to 46-43, but that was as close as the Lady Tigers would get the rest of the way. Lynn scored the next six points to open up a nine-point advantage.
Raven Baker led Benedict with 13 points. Destiny Betts had 12 points and a team-best nine rebounds. Betts, who was coming off a 30-point, 32-rebound effort against Saint Leo on Saturday, was plagued with foul trouble and played 22 minutes, including just eight minutes in the second half. Luke added 10 points.
Benedict falls to 6-7 on the season, while Lynn improves to 6-4.
Benedict will take a break for the Christmas holiday and return to action on Jan. 2 at Miles College.
