COLUMBIA, S.C. – The 15
th-ranked Benedict College women's basketball team wrapped up their second straight undefeated season at home with a 78-43 victory over Clark Atlanta University on Thursday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The Lady Tigers honored their seven seniors, who combined for 46 points against the Lady Panthers. Junior
Destiny Betts led the way with 13 points, while senior
KaDeeja Vaughn added 10 points.
Benedict improved to 23-2 overall and 13-2 in the SIAC. Clark Atlanta fell to 6-19 overall and 4-11 in the SIAC.
Benedict improved to 14-0 at home this season and went 12-0 at home in 2014-15. Benedict's last home loss was against Albany State on Feb. 8, 2014, a streak of 27 straight games.
The Lady Tigers held Clark Atlanta to 25 percent shooting for the game (11-of-44) and outrebounded the Lady Panthers 50-28. Benedict scored 22 second-chance points. The Lady Tigers forced 21 Clark Atlanta turnovers and scored 27 points off those turnovers.
Benedict scored the final 10 points of the first period to take a 14-9 lead, then scored the first eight points of the second period to build a 22-9 lead. Benedict took a 13-point lead, 32-19, at the half. A 3-pointer by senior
Asia Benn at the end of the third period gave Benedict a 50-30 lead. A 12-point run in the fourth period pushed the lead to 67-36. The 35-point margin of victory was the third highest of the season for the Lady Tigers.
Benedict, which will be the No. 1 seed in the East Division in the upcoming SIAC Tournament, wraps up the regular season on Saturday at Paine College at 1 p.m.
