ATLANTA – The Benedict College Tigers shot just 37.3 percent and Morehouse used a big run in the first half and went on to take a 78-56 victory in a battle for first place in the SIAC East Division on Tuesday night.
Benedict fell to 15-9 overall and 10-5 in the SIAC. Morehouse won its seventh straight game and improved to 13-5 overall and 9-4 in the SIAC.
Brennan Reynard was Benedict's top scorer with 10 points.
Lafonzo Smith added nine points and had a team-high eight rebounds.
Robert Askew led the Maroon Tigers with 21 points. Michael Scott added 18 points, hitting five 3-pointers.
Morehouse used a 17-3 run early in the first half to build a 28-11 lead. The Maroon Tigers pushed the lead to 38-18 and led 42-25 at the half.
The Tigers never got the lead below 16 points in the second half.
Benedict is back in action on Saturday, hosting rival Claflin University at 3 p.m.
